Persian Lime

Persian Lime

Citrics

Limes, often referred to as Persian limes or Tahitian limes, are a common citrus fruit known for their vibrant green color, tart flavor, and aromatic zest. They are larger and less acidic than key limes, with a thicker rind and fewer seeds. Limes are a staple in many cuisines around the world, particularly in Latin American, Asian, and Caribbean dishes, where they are used to add brightness and acidity to both sweet and savory preparations.

Storage Tips

  • Proper storage helps maintain the freshness and juiciness of limes:
  • • Refrigerator (Best Method): Store whole limes in a plastic bag (or a mesh bag) in the
  • crisper drawer of your refrigerator. This helps prevent them from drying out and can
  • keep them fresh for 3-4 weeks, significantly longer than at room temperature.
  • • Room Temperature: Limes can be stored at room temperature for 5-7 days, especially if
  • you plan to use them quickly. However, they will dry out and lose their juiciness faster
  • than in the refrigerator.
  • • Freezing (Whole): Whole limes can be frozen. Place them in a freezer-safe bag or
  • container. When thawed, they will be softer and easier to juice, but their texture will be
  • altered, making them best for juicing or zesting rather than slicing.
  • • Freezing (Juice/Zest): For longer storage, you can juice the limes and freeze the juice in
  • ice cube trays. Once frozen, transfer the cubes to an airtight freezer bag. The zest can
  • also be frozen in a small airtight container. This allows you to have lime flavor readily
  • available for months.
